No, I'm afraid that wouldn't work - the installation is specific to the hardware it's installed on.

I would not recommend that hard drive install swap

I would boot up with nv driver and install, than use portage to emerge x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-173.14.05 since that was the driver that worked before.

Ok I am a total newbie to linux but am willing to give it a try.. I have a similar issue as the person who started this thread has with a twist.... I get the blank screen that he is describing but when I hold down the "windows" key on my keyboard i get a list of commands that have been run and the very last on stats something to the effect of "unmute your card" What does that mean and to show how much of a total newb I am please list all codes that might work and where to put them in the F5 line

Thanks :?

"unmute your card" is referring to your soundcard, nothing to do with video

I have same problem too with my Nvidia Go 6150 LE.
I just can go to X only with nv driver.
I have tried many version but still failed. Just a few second after entering Kde 4.2 desktop, my pc crash and off suddenly.

And maybe another annoying thing, i cannot use 3.5 live cd, since it ask for which experience (standard or advanced).
Even if i select standard, my pc crashed too. I think because sabayon already load non nv driver.

Is there an option to load nv driver from live cd, if not may be the next sabayon release could have this option, just like chakra linux.

Anyone has working xorg.conf for nvidia? I'm still using the generated one from sabutil.

Ok new issue... I used the xdriver=nv cheat code but whe the desktop loads I see the desktop for a few seconds then the music starts and the screen goes blank then white and all i see is the pointer. When I move the pointer to the lower left corner of the screen then i see the pointer change to a hand. what is going on here? When i go into the install selection from the main menu from the live cd boot options it works fine. The only issue is that i need to know if Sabayon supports Nvidia raid 5 on the 780i chipset. I have my computer already set up that way and would like to keep it that way.

Thanks

Ok, I'm somewhat new to linux, I use somewhat sparingly. I have used the older versions of Sabayon all with good luck (3.1 and 3.4), but this one seems to have me spinning my wheels. I have tried all the cheat codes I have found posted in the forums, I have also tried to do the equo updates on both the kernel and the graphics drivers. I have also tried both versions 4.0 and 4.0 r1. It runs in the live environment just fine on my laptop, and every now and then it will run in the live environment on my desktop, but this is a rare occassion. Yes, I checked the MD5 checksum (done automatically with the download manager). Basically what happens is I get crapped back out to the prompt everytime I try anything. I tried to get the Sabayon Live Tools to get the information needed to post for troubleshooting, but cannot seem to get it to run. I DID get the xdriver to set to ATI, after doing all those fixes posted everywhere in the forum. I'd really like to get this running on this PC as it is a powerhouse. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I also got openGL to set to ATI, also one of the "fixes" found in the forums, unfortunately, this also didn't work. My setup is as follows:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6
Processor: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 2.83 Ghz
Memory: 4GB OCZ Platinum DDR3 2100
Graphics : 2X ATI Radeon HD4870 (Crossfired)
HDD: 2X Seagate Barracuda Sata II 500 GB + 1X Seagate Barracuda ATA 320GB
Sound: OnBoard RealTek HD
Optical Drive: Sony DRU-830A DVD burner

ANY help you guys can provide would be helpful.... I'll watch the posts closely, and provide information as needed based on replies... i.e. What I've already tried... and what I've not tried.

Ok… my journey continues...

Well it’s been 10 days since my last post, and lots has happened. My old AGP motherboard decided to die, and did. I’m thinking… could this be the cause of all my woes..?

My old system was as follows:

ECS nForce3-A AGP w/nvidia chipset
AMD Sempron 1.8Ghz
AMD stock CPU cooler
4xPATRIOT 512MB PC2700 333MHz DDR
Sound Blaster “Live” 5.1
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600
2 x Maxtor 1TB SATA II
PIONEER 20X SATA DVD
430w Power Supply
SAMSUNG 2443BWT 24" LCD

Last weekend I bought the hardware and built myself a new system as follows:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P
Core i7 920 O.C. to 3.0 Ghz
Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler
Corsair 6GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 OC 1GB PCIe
2 x Maxtor 1TB SATA II
PIONEER 20X SATA DVD
Corsair 850w Power Supply
Cooler Master HAF 932 Case
SAMSUNG 2443BWT 24" LCD

Now the cool stuff… I put enough pieces together to check and see if it was gonna fire up… IT DID! Next, I put in SL4 DVD to see if it will boot w/nvidia default drivers… IT DID! (Now... the Compiz angels are singing, birds are chirping and I think I saw a rainbow over my room…). I'm having a wonderful day! Now it’s time to pretty up the wiring, add the remaining cards and button ‘er up.

Reboot SL4 DVD again… NO JOY… black screen, blinking cursor. Hmmmm… WTF? Start yanking cards…

Boys and girls… IT WAS THE FREAK’IN TV CARD! That thing has been sitting there (not being used) the whole time… Errrr! I’m guessing it was conflicting with the AGP card and/or any kernels 2.6.26 and above. Moot point now, as this shiny new system screams!

So I guess (hope) this particular saga ends here, and just maybe some of my newbie ramblings will enlighten someome to a fix for their problems.

Anyway… Many thanks to all who read my stuff and tried to help me out. Sabayon Linux is my distro of choice, and I look forward to learning and growing with it for a long long time…
