Some problems (Keyboard & Graphics)

Postby Vulpeculae » Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:46

Hi everybody!

I installed sabayon linux on my computers last week, and I really like it. (This is the first time I use linux) But I've been having all kinds of problems with it, solved most of them during the week but there's some I haven't found a solution for. That's why I turn to you guys, and hopefully help me get a fully functional linux dist. :)

My first problem.
I've installed Sabayon on my macbook, and I cant get the alt key to work. Can't write @ (had to copy it), but alt-tab works fine. I've change the keyboard layout to macbook/macbook pro. Is there a solution for this?

My second problem.
I'm using KDE4.2 and it always freezes at the splashscreen (the fourth element is barly visible) when I have composite enabled in the xorg.conf. And I really want it for the nice effects. I have a third? generation macbook with the GMA 950 card. Compiz is installed aswell.

If you need any more info that I've forgot to add, just ask ;)
And please bare in mind that I'm a newbie with linux

Thanks in advance!

greetings to you!

my experience has always been that with macs, the alt/ctrl/⌘ keys are flipped, and the fn/non-fn keys are flipped. If you need to press fn to access something normally with a mac, when you've loaded the mac keymap that will flip. Irritating, isn't it? If any of this winds up being your case, then that's indeed a good thing.

As for your graphics, there's a file in your home directory called .xsessionerrors that usually has all your x session errors. See if there's anything interesting in there.
