Cd not there, but it is "Games/Wine"

Postby smardy » Mon Mar 23, 2009 11:06

I'm trying to install an old win98 game called wipeout. It used to be the flagship game for playstation...
Anyway I was going to wine it and just see what I get but it won't recognise the cd.
my other cd's recogonise fine and I can hear it weeerring when I put it in but then it says no devices plugged in.
It's not scratched up or anything.
What is going on? I can't get to it in konquerer or dolphin either..

You could try to first copy it from the cd to your hard drive and then point wine to where this files / folder is and install from there.
For wine you might have to first have it mounted and seen in SL and then wine will see it as well.

If not then it could be anything from missing dependency's for wine to actual issues in wine code or needed something or the cd is in a format not clear to wine to understand.

You could either try to use wine-doors or reinstall or downgrade wine and see if it helps.

Alternatively check to see if autorun for cd's is on or off but this should not cause a big issue just helps win enviro. see the cd's or try to read new disc instead of thinking it has not changed and so ignores them.

thanks warra
but, maybe I was unclear, It's the cd that is not being recognised, not just by wine but all of apps/kde panel widget etc.
The cd is fine I just installed it in vista. (it runs far too fast there, processor speed dependent.) I thought I'd try it as an easy small ap for my first wine go.

---------
On a very similar vain I just managed to install casino verity, a propriatory blackjack game, simulator, which has many features for improving your game.
It did the same thing in linux it does on windows, claims there is no file MSCOMCTL.OCX in c:win/system or system32 / not registered. I found the file moved it in both places.
But now how do I register the file, it claims still not registered.
in windows I'd run "regsvr32 \windows\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX"
but how do I do that in wine?

Okay if all fails then you might have to manually mount it and or edit /etc/mtab and /etc/fstab to tell it where and how to handle the cd /dvd drive and mounting it to where.

fstab example:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/h ... art1_chap8

SL uses /dev/sr0 instead of /dev/hdc and remember to make the folder.
