have you uninstalled tracker?
It seems that it is fundamental for nautilus

Thanks for your help with that. I know the root of all my problems will be user error. That is why I'm posting here haha.

I will re-install tracker, and see how it goes from there.

I followed the instructions on that ATI Wiki page but they haven't fixed my compiz issue.
I haven't yet booted into the 2.6.28 kernel.
Last time after I booted into that kernel, gnome stopped loading all together.

We are here to help :D
the more you learn, the less errors you will make.

Unfortunately I cannot understand what is wrong with Compiz, unfortunately
ATI has a honourable history of configuration warfare with linux...
I'm trying to figure out something from that

Cool =)

I'm not in any rush on this, its actually just a project right now. I have other OSs that are stable right now. I come from Ubuntu background so things are a little different.

I wish I knew how i got compiz working before. But I was using emerge at the time and updated/upgraded every package haha. Compiz was working but other programs were not. I just re-installed lol

just in case, is the 'dbus' daemon running?
Compiz seems to complain about it when starting

(and about the verbose boot, you can press Alt+f1,and, after the second Sabayon logo, f2 to
get verbose output)

I knew about pushing alt-f1 and f2 but by the time it switches to verbose, the login already loads.

Well, in my journeys in spritz i some how managed to wreck gnome again.

gnome won't load with or without compiz. it just flashes the screen and goes back to login window...

I can get into kde, but i still have to disable knetworkmanager so wicd will work.
I'm not really a fan of kde3.5 though, i'd rather use gnome.

Did you removed or installed something?

about the compiz issue;
try to add
Code: Select all
Option "VideoOverlay" "off"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "on"

to your xorg.conf file, Section "Device", be careful editing this file, and make a backup to prevent
errors.
Hope this helps

Well thanks again Micia, turns out that I need to do some serious studying of the config files!
I just merged all my files lol.
Gonna re-install and not worry about installing or updating anything.
I will first get compiz working.
