What is the meaning of "Merge All" "Delete All" in Spritz

Postby odinbaal » Tue Feb 17, 2009 0:40

Hello,

After various updates through Spritz, I get the option, under "Configuration Files," to "Delete all" or "Merge all" a few files which, it seems, are leftovers/changes (?) after the update.

As I have not been able to find documentation on this option, I have generally opted for "Merge all."

Is this correct standard practice?

Also, is there any help file or documentation on all the options in Spritz? What is available on the internet about Spritz is, as far as I know, either outdated or too brief.

Thanks.

Our wiki is the only documentation at the moment for entropy. Knowing entropy generally requires a knowledge of portage as that is where entropy comes from. So the gentoo documentation is always a good source of information. Try for config files:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/h ... t=3&chap=4

Config files are something you will have to get to know as to which ones you want to merge or not. Some you do, some you don't, pending on your system of course. Try:
http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... troduction

A widely used rule of thumb is - if you didn't make changes to the config files, it's safe to merge them. It's important to know what config files do what as you will not want some to overwrite or you could end starting your computer up in a completely different interface. It's important to deal with the config files as some things won't work unless you do update the config files. So bottom line, learn the important config files. The more you understand gentoo, the more you understand of Sabayon.
