nm-applet also works for those of you who want a GUI app without having to do any portage stuff or switch to wicd. It will require pulling in some extra GNOME dependencies though.

Re: can't see network or print after equo update

If the network itself if working and you can access the Internet via your ADSL router/hub and it's just Samba that is giving you trouble after the upgrade then my first hunch would be to look in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file to see if the Windows workgroup has been changed.

Ok, I have checked and my smb files have they not changed and I am using network manger 0.6.6-r1. what confuses me is that my internet works great, but I still get a timeout on server and still cannot print. hmmm.

OK, you're going to have to give us something more to work with. Please tell us the following, in case any of it is relevant:

1. Are you using Samba to access shares on a Windows XP PC or Vista PC?
2. Is the printer connected to a Windows XP PC or to a Vista PC?
3. Which version of net-fs/samba have you got installed?
4. Post your /etc/samba/smb.conf file here (please use the Code display button in the POST A REPLY box as the file is long).
5. If you're using Vista, have you seen the SL Wiki article HOWTO: Vista Printer Sharing?
6. How did you set up your Samba shares and printer sharing originally? Did you repeat that process after performing the equo update?
7. What specific hardware you have SL running on.
8. What version and edition (arch) of SL you are using.
9. What error messages exactly are you getting when you try to access a share or try to print?

darn, where did my reply go ? network-mananger-0.6.6-r1 works fine, except that it doesn't auto start, I have to add an entry via KDE's Autostart, and then it works fine

Help

Postby warriorofchaos20 » Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:59

ok guys, i apologize if i put this in the wrong section but i'm having a lot of problems! i've been using Sabayon 4 since around it's release time and i just did the updates earlier this afternoon, and when i restarted it, nothing worked! I can login to my account but i can't open any apps or folders or anything! i think i might have gotten an error message during the update but i thought it was some minor thing...if anyone has any brilliant suggestions please let me know. i've rebooted it close to a million times now probably and neither me nor my brother who's generally pretty good with comps and linux can figure out what to do! Thank you in advance.

I also lost my network connections after upgrading from Sabayon 4.0, but I see that Fitzcarraldo already has the solution posted. I'm using a Sony VAIO VGNAR730E and everything worked right out of the box except that I had to strip out the WPA and PSK codes for the wireless to connect. I have an Intel Wireless 4965 AGN installed. Once I downgrade KNetWork Manager, does anyone know how to get some sort of security codes reinstalled in the wireless connection?
I'm a newbie if you haven't guessed, so I probably left out something important that would help get me an answer to my problem.
Thanks for the help.

You should put some explicative title for your topic, this helps finding out your problem
without having to read the whole message :D

I had similar issues when I updated NetworkManager, but I am not sure if this is the problem,
since I don't know what you updated.

You could try to disable NetworkManager and see if you can open folders or anything,
open a console as root and type:
Code: Select all
rc-update del NetworkManager default boot

restart, and see if now it works.

Unfortunately without NetworkManager you will not be able to connect to internet...
If that is the problem you could downgrade NetworkManager, or try out Wicd.
To re-enable NetworkManager you should type in a root console:
Code: Select all
rc-update add NetworkManager default
