Uninstall Gnome and Fluxbox

Postby DanySK » Thu Jan 29, 2009 17:12

Hi all,
I have a full sabayon 4 installation (upgraded from a 3.5 installation). I would like to remove gnome (but not all its stuff) and Fluxbox (and all its stuff). Is there a meta-package or something similar to remove without search package-per-package what to remove?
Another question: will KDE4.2 overwrite KDE4.1 or it will be added as another DE? I don't like KDE4.1 but I'll try the 4.2 version: if the new one will be added, I remove the 4.1.

Well use spritz, remove the packages you want?

Fluxbox is a window manager, it has no "stuff" You should keep it around as a backup at least if your KDE install needs messing up

I was going to uninstall gnome once, but realized quite a few packages I use have gnome lib dependancies (at least according to Spritz). It's the way they are compiled I guess. Even artsplugin-xine would get removed if I removed gnome! The way I was going to do it is just going to Spritz >> Installed Packages >> Search "gnome" >> select gnome-base packages >> tada. Sadly it removes a whole host of things I want so, I have no real way of knowing what actually depends on gnome libs.

For this I have thought about switching package managers to emerge and recompiling everything with new use flags. Although I like the ease of use entropy offers with binaries and update notifications. But I guess that's the trade off.
If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.
