Howto Gather Log Files Easily - Help Us to Help You

We've put together a little script that can help you gather log files
This package now has been adopted into app-misc/sabayonlive-tools-2.0

equo update

equo install sabayonlive-tools

then run

sabutil menu

if using portage you can

layman -S

and then

emerge sabayonlive-tools

You have to be root to run this script to get the information needed.

now just enter in what you want to do, for fdisk, hit 07 and than hit enter, it will display it on your screen and than give you a url which you can give that url to anyone to view, than push enter to return to main menu:


So now if you have an issue, you can easily gather up the information that is often required to problem solve and help devs get the needed info. This can work on live disks as well. If you enter live help, we are gonna ask for these logs also, so now you are armed to give the proper info, win win for all. Yes the screenshots show I am using putty to connect to my home computer.

I've updated the scripts to now include the edition of sabayon-edition

Starting with LiteMCE we now include /etc/sabayon-edition - this will help us know which edition of Sabayon Linux you are running along with what Version.

When I try option 09 I get an error that the directory doesn't exist

Sabayon 4.0(r1) doesn't have /etc/sabayon-edition

That is why I mentioned it in the post - it still works just fine with SL 4

has there been any thought on creating this as a program that will install when you actually intall this on your computer.
i have been around linux for 1.5 years, sabayon since 3.4f and this might be a little to difficult for a new person
but it would be real easy if it had a menu item for log files, sort of like a screen shot menu item.
