How do I repair scratches in a carbon fibre laptop lid?

The lid of my laptop is made of carbon fibre (see photo below), and yesterday a #*!@ at work scratched it when he moved my laptop on the desk. Can anyone recommend a product for repairing scratches in carbon fibre/shiny epoxy surfaces? I wondered whether these kits for repairing scratches in CDs and DVDs might do the job? Any other ideas?

Before I did anything I would check with the maker to see if they have a repair product for your laptop.

Also there are a lot of carbon fiber products (kits) available for the auto after market, you might find a touchup kit that way.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like a trip to my local car accessories shop to ask about plastic polish might be useful. I've been doing some googling and the following products also look like they might help:

That Novus plastic polish looks particularly promising.

You could also get one of those "skins" that fit your laptop and and adhere nicely to the lid. I have Ohio State skins on both of my laptops and I like them.

Yes, I should have done that when I first bought the laptop two years ago. If/once I manage to get the scratch out I'll look at putting a skin on it.

I would go with the Applesauce or the IceCream. They both sound like delicious solutions.

I had to 2 times already replace my palm rest part of my laptop and got it for cheap on ebay. Usually this is from new laptops with defective parts like screen and it is cheaper for manufacturer to strip and sell parts on ebay or via proxy.

Not sure if you want to spend about $30 + shipping approx to get a replacement lcd cover / lid ?
Had to do the same with my Apple G4 17" 1.67ghz ages ago.

If you do also check the hinges as you might want to change them as they do get messed up on any laptop.
