How do I "banish" packages from Entropy / Spritz [Solved]

Postby analyticalman » Fri Jan 09, 2009 20:35

Hi - Just installed Sabayon 4 - very nice! (although how did I get so many window managers - I just asked for KDE and as well as that I have Gnome, Fluxbox, Openbox, XFCE, LXDE (huh?)) When I update packages its like updating the whole of Linux :) Anyway - thats the problem - although my 3D acceleration & Compiz are working just fine, Entropy wants me to upgrade my Nvidia drivers and when I do my system falls over (tried it twice) - can't even get keyboard input on the screen, let alone X - so its a reinstall - and there aint gonna be a third one :twisted: . As it irritates me to see it there waiting for me to upgrade it, can I send it away so it doesn't apear in my updates any more? Thanks in advance for any help

Have a look at

Code: Select all
/etc/entropy/packages/packages.mask

Example content:
Code: Select all
# package.mask example file
#
# In this file you can specify atoms, one per line, that you would mask.
# Masking a package (atom) means that you will deny Entropy to pull in a package even if it's marked as "NOT experimental".

# LINE CONSTRUCTION:
# <atom>
# See examples below

# EXAMPLES:
# >=media-libs/foo-1.2.3
# media-libs/foo
# <media-libs/foo-1.2.3
# media-libs/foo:1
# >=media-libs/foo-1.2.3#2.6.23-sabayon-r1
#
# :1 means package with SLOT="1"
# #2.6.23-sabayon-r1 means package with kernel tag = 2.6.23-sabayon-r1
