Boot LiveDVD via Grub Menu?

Postby entdiablo » Sun Nov 13, 2005 17:32

Is it possible to boot a liveDVD from the grub menu? If so, then anyone know how?

Yes!
Enter in the grub shell and type:

root (cd) [ENTER]
kernel /boot/gentoo root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc cdroot gentoo=nodevfs nodevfs udev looptype=squashfs loop=/livecd.squashfs splash=silent,fadein,theme:default video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-16@60 CONSOLE=/dev/tty1 quiet [ENTER]
initrd /boot/gentoo.igz [ENTER]
boot [ENTER]

it should work for every RR4 LiveDVD...

I have successfully booted via grub from the Hard drive. That is, I was able to download the iso, but could not use a DVD drive. This is a useful way for someone to use rr4 with out a DVD drive.

1/ I mounted the iso via -o loop
2/ copied everything to a HD partition
3/ edited the Grub menu.lst to include an RR4 option
4/ rebooted and rr4 is running beautifully

Thanks lxnay :)

I have used knoppix, kanotix, slax, goblinx, puppy but this is the first Gentoo.
