Sabayon xmonad project thread

Postby Digit » Fri Dec 26, 2008 23:19

I dont mind if no one else uses xmonad or cares for the aims of this thread, i'm making it anyway. (and hopefully this idea will recieve a warm reception given the potential for high return of features to size of kb)
The aim...
To collaborate on a fully kitted out to the nines xmonad config for sabayon ootb.
To be as useful and feature packed and intuitive if not at least informative as to it's use, above and beyond just linkage to the already abundantly helpful xmonad docs guides and other help already available. And who knows, with enough success at creating a consensus kitted out everyman xmonad.hs (and xmobar and/or whatever else), it might just be considered excellent enough to be added to the next version of sabayon. :D

I'll b back soon with a post up of my xmonad.hs & xmobar and a pile more helpful links (especially to other examples, how tos, modules, etc) (posting this from my phone... There's dedication for ya! :D), and likely more waffle. But to at least attempt to be clear and concise, some bullet points:

- consensus xmonad kitted out configuration for xmonad
- including any expansions (dzen, xmobar, etc) also conforming to OOTB.

- allow user to load as seperate sessions;
-- raw xmonad
-- our fully kitted out xmonad
-- xmonad in kde
-- xmonad in gnome
-- more?

- include xmonad useful links in default ootb browser bookmarks to help new users, and convenience for experienced to help conform to KISS.

- keep controls as close to default xmonad as possible, making only a few key super useful additions.

Any developement on this framework welcome. ..i'm not a fascist, i just sound it at times because i'm an anarchist (in the socially possitive, generative & ethical/political sense).

I'm not an "official" sabayon guy. Just an enthusiastic ideas sabayon-user. ...tho i guess such is the open source way. ^_^ this make me a "developer"?

If anyone else uses other tiling window managers, i'd love to see your thread of similar content and aims as this one. Room for all on "full" sabayon, especially when these tiling window managers are only tiny things. Tiny in megs, massive in useability power and performance gains, and productivity / workflow gains, and customiseability, and ~ oh sorry i'll stick to the point. U get ALOT for very little additional hd space... A massive saving infact if u dont even bother with a desktop environment.

So now that my conscience is resting easy having spouted of enough reason behind the validity of the idea for those who need/want such features (whether they know it or not yet), and the negligeable footprint imposition for those who dont, i'll hand it over to the sabyon forummer community to see what who, if anyone, does with the ball(idea) should they pick it up.
educate yourself so you may educate others.

we are one.

I have moved to xmonad a week ago.
Tiling WM are fantastic.
I'm all for a thread sharing configs, and even a sabayon xmonad version.
Before anyone else jumps on xmonad, you should know that right now, there's an open bug on xmonad-contrib. xmonad-contrib is needed for full enjoyment of xmonad :). Will post once the bug is closed.
