Note that on Sabayon 3.5 there are some KDE 4.0.5/3.97 packages pre-installed. For whatever reason (?) this was needed at the time.

In the 4 branch i removed all of these, you should remove them local too.

We are planning on recompiling KDE4 with the kdeprefix flag.

This will allow to have KDE 3.5 next to KDE4. We know that we will break standards but we have are reasons.

tiny update:
* KDE 4 is just not ready enough we feel. Although we are trying our best to get it better in shape as default Gentoo portage version.
* At this point nvidia-drivers are "broken" in the branch because we are trying to tweak kernel for functioning ati-drivers. So if you run into issues with nvidia drivers, my advice would be to use portage and recompile them locally.
* Another thing fixed is HAL. So in Dolphin you now see your local partitions.
* New open-office splash

Good luck to the people daring.

Thanks once again. I actually decided to go with KDE 4.1.73 version, from the kde-crazy overlay instead of 4.1.3, will post if I find anything interesting. I am about to start compiling it in a few hours!

joost,

The current situation in the SL Bugzilla is as follows:

http://bugs.sabayonlinux.org/report.cgi ... alue0-0-0=

Out of interest, how many of these reports will be resolved in the 4.0 release?

Things reported in bugzilla are addressed in general.
Its not a specific sabayon 4 (Entropy) branch thing.

I'm pretty sure that after we have our first Loop pushed out we will have solved any critical stuff.
You ask for a number of resolved issues. Well that would be kinda impossible for me to answer. All I know is that, since you ask me, I fix whatever dev team asks me to fix in the branch.

Can't do more then that.

//edit
Looking through them allot of things in there are invalid or even outdated.. Needs to be cleaned up. :D

Just wondered about the reasons for kdeprefix USE flag Joost? You mention KDE 3.5 and 4.1, but I thought that having major versions side by side was not a problem. Is moving away from the path Gentoo are choosing going to cause problems for portage users in the future?
