Current or past user of Gentoo?

Just curious how many SL Forum members use, or used to use, Gentoo.

If you are currently using Gentoo, post with the reason(s) you are using it.

If you used to be a Gentoo user, post with the reason(s) why you stopped using it.

EDIT: BTW, I've never used Gentoo.

Back when I was a student I used gentoo. I liked tweaking it, resulting in breaking it alot. The install process was a pain, but I learned a lot. Gentoo was very time consuming in my opinion so when I graduated from university and started to work I had less time and needed something that was easy to install and just worked. So I tried Ubuntu. It worked, but could not satisfy my needs as I missed the customizability and possibility to tweak packages when I had time and wanted to. Then I came across SabayonLinux. It was easy to install and just worked. In addition it gave me also the gentoo tweaking abilities when I wanted them... Now with 3.5 and equo it is even better. Upgrading and installing new packages is very easy and fast, and if I want I can compile it with my custom USE flags. It fits my needs perfectly

I never "used Gentoo" as in fetch their disc and go on the desktop.

I use to use gentoo, but needed the partition to test Sabayon stuff. I definitely would reinstall it, but I have enough installs right now.

I taken knownledge about Gentoo, because of the Sabayon...
When i start to use Sabayon, i was curious about the Gentoo.
I tested more that 40 Linuxes, mainly Debian Like...
Now i use Sabayon and also i use Gentoo...
My favorite Distros are Sabayon, Gentoo and Mandriva.
I the work, i have XP double boot with Mandriva.
In my house, i have triple-boot:
Windows Vista, with Sabayon 3.5 and Gentoo 2008.0.

I've tried Gentoo, but never really got a successful installation. And in the newest version, they removed a LOT of the customizability in the installer!
It's no surprise people often claim Gentoo is on the decline. Not saying it's true, but I can see why they'd think that.
If I need a Gentoo-esque system, Sabayon is good, and FreeBSD is also good. I wish Gentoo the best of luck.

Now, the graphical installer of Gentoo works...
I'm a Sabayon and Gentoo user.
in my opinion, old gentoo, previous versions were not CUSTOMiZABLE IN THE INSTALLATION, but were VERY DIFFICULT TO INSTALL and initial WORKING... the user loose many time to put their Gentoo usable!
Modern Distros, should be CUSTOMIZABLE AFTER THE INSTALLATION and not during the installation...
Now.... new versions of Gentoo are much better than the antique, now is customizable and usable....
Sabayon also!
Antique Gentoos were only for experts, and only experts that are fans of Gentoo!
Common experts tried Slackware, not Gentoo!
Gentoo was very time consuming.....!
experts that in the past ,try to use less time consuming linuxes, migrates to debian anf slackware (also difficult, but not as Gentoo).
Now, no more difficult to install linuxes exists, neither Gentoo, Slackware, Arch ou Debian.
I'm a Chemistry Scientist. Science, as Technology is even up to date...
The times of the black screen terminal are the past..
In my oppinion, New Gentoo is much better than the antique Gentoos!!!
In Brazil, Gentoo has more users compared with in the past, debian and slackware also!
freeBSD is not a Linux. Is Unix based system, is similar to Linux, but is a not a Linux system

I would use Gentoo if I had the time, installing alone is a three day deal.
Sabayon is saving me time + I get what I want. I can't be compiling all the time.

Used to use it and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn linux well. Actually still have it on two workstations and a server. The server I may keep with it. The workstations will be switched to Sabayon the next time portage ticks me off

I used to it, best way to get to learn linux, had to stop due to the fact I was on dial-up:s This is Cornwall so we were probably the last to get broadband. I have a virtual machine with it on but really havent got the time know to play around with it anymore......anyway Sabayon is here now:D
