Using HIF Networking in VirtualBox

Postby obiwan » Thu Sep 25, 2008 21:39

Hi everyone, I am trying to use host interface networking with VirtualBox, but everytime I try to create a vbox0 interface to connect to the bridge I get the following error.

Failed to take down the old interface in order to replace it with the new one.
The interface may still be in use, or you may not currently have sufficient
permissions to do this. You can replace the interface manually using the
VBoxTunctl command, or alternatively, the new interface will be created
automatically next time you restart the host system.

The interface is not created and I cannot use the bridge to connect my VBox guest.
I read on some other forum that vboxnet need to be running, if that is the case how do I start it?

Kind regards

You should be able to unload it using
# ifconfig eth0 down
Replacing as is needed with correct names / labels.

Might have to add to the rc-update list the new eth device / virtual one you need.

# rc-update add net.eth99 default

Obviously using correct names / labels. This will laod it on startup.

Why not just use NAT much less issues.
