IDE of choice

I will be learning C++ shortly and have to code on a Windows box at work and when I'm at home I'll be using my Linux machine. I know NetBeans and Eclipse are available for both platforms. I have used neither of them so I want to know what people prefer. I will also be looking into QT4 in the near future as well.

For C++ i am prefering using NetBeans because i don't like the Eclipse-CDT and miss things like a good working code completion,etc. I have never tried using it with QT

I've typically done my C++ program writing in kate, however it's not an IDE. It does have a terminal that you can quickly open up and compile and run your programs through though. No debugging options.

I hear that KDevelop is a really good IDE choice if you are developing C++, so you might want to check that one out.

KDevelop for sure is great for developing C++, but afaik there is no Win-Port for it, which the author of the thread needs, if he wants to use it crossplatform.

Thanks for the help. I did some research around town and it seems like NetBeans and Eclipse have about 50% markets share each around town. I'm guessing they can't be that different but if Eclipse missing things I'll go with NetBeans.

Just install both of them and give them both a try for half an hour. So you can make a decision on your own. I think it is a matter of taste.

jEdit rocks. You need to get a few plugins first, but its great.

Again (like Kate) no compiling support straight off, very good though.

The KDE4 version of KDevelop probably have a windoze port since Qt4 and the Kapps have already been ported to windoze.
