Spritz and removing packages easily, and other comments

Postby ryan120 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 22:05

Hello,

First of all, thank you very much to those who designed and put together, both Sabayon, and the spritz thing, along with the zenana site.

Second, I just installed Sabayon 3.5. I installed a bunch of things, I would rather have not have. When I click on an item in Spritz, it says "update", but does not say "remove". This would be a nice addition, as I would like to remove most of the things I previously installed.

Third, There is a large lag time for me against zenana, when I am selecting new packages for download. I would like to suggest a wait cue for this, rather than making the user sit and wait until it has been confirmed with the download server (which appears to be what's currently happening). That way, I could scroll down (and select over) the list in 10 seconds, instead of in 10 minutes. Perhaps a list of those things which had problems (missing dependencies, etc. ) could be kept somewhere else and reviewed by the user at his/her leisure, before beginning download?

That said, the systems in place look very nice and work very well, and are a joy to use. I don't use linux often, so it gets kind of confusing wondering what 5 or 6 different directories, my old version of firefox might happen to be in. A software system to remove the old software and install the new software (I'm hoping this removes the old) is just the thing.

Something else I just thought of is that with things like KDE 4.1.0, it would be nice to have the core 4.1.0 desktop environment grouped together for download together, instead of having to select the packages 1 by 1 and, that, while wading through many other unnecessary KDE items. I realize that this might not be high on the priority list, but it would be nice to have.

Thanks,

I will agree with the issue of removing packages via Spritz. I am not as seasoned as some on the Linux side, however this is not my first version either. I have tried using equo to uninstall some packages, however I have not had much luck. When I did the install I selected everything on accident, and would like to be able to go back and uninstall stuff that I do not use to save hard drive space. Can anyone give me a rough idea of the steps necessary or am I going to be further ahead to do a quick reinstall?

Thanks!

Awesome product overall tho! I really am enjoying sabayon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can remove packages via spritz, but when Spritz opens up, you are looking at available upgrades. You can't uninstall an upgrade. You need to click on the box at the top that brings up all installed packages and you can remove them from there.
