(packages are being uploading currently, please be patient)

Zenana is x86-64 only at this time, if you would like to maintain a x86 branch, message me!

That's certainly good news, & it's finally pushed me into adding your repository. I'm sure that may be quite a few others too. Well done :)

strigi-0.5.11 is not found when I try to install dolphin. It's available through kdesvn-portage, but seems to be buggy. Spritz needs it to install dolphin.

Hmm. What does that actually exactly mean? Is it just compiled on and therefore optimized for x68 architecture but will work on x86 too? KDE is not working in kernel mode and so it should not be architecture dependend, or am i totally wrong? Sorry for my confused post, it is late and work was hard today. Brain damage, you know...

You have a wrong idea there. Programs that work for 32 bit architecture (x86) do not work on 64 bit (x86_64). The same is true for the reverse.

Some 32 bit (x86) programs work on 64 bit by having special 64 bit programs emulate a 32 bit environment. The same is NOT true for the reverse in this case.

However, you will find that most programs need to be compiled specifically for x86 & x86_64.

I hope that helps to clear things up.

Okay, i slept over it. But i think this depends on how the kernel is compiled? I could use x86 software on an amd64, if i used an x86 kernel, or am i wrong again? I can remember one funny press release, microsoft once published in the beginning of x86_64 architecture, that if you are into stability, you should nevertheless use the x84-version of what they call os.

.... i tried it out. i can use sabayon x86 live cd on my amd 64 machine.

Yes, you can have x86 installed on a 64 bit machine.

Microsoft said that because their 64-bit version of Windows wasn't stable. For programs that use lower system calls, making it work with 64 bits is more complicated than just recompiling it. They have to actually change a lot of the code and figure out work arounds, which is why it wasn't stable. The linux x86_64 kernel is stable, but there are still some issues with applications that work well in 32 bit but haven't been transferred over to x86_64.

However, if you have x86 installed on your amd64, then you should just consider it an x86 system (with the capability of becoming an x86_64 system).
