Entropy Pauses

Postby ddeacon » Mon Jul 28, 2008 15:09

I just installed Sabayon for the first time (gentoo convert) and have been going through the update of all the packages. The updates have been taking a very long time (2 days) and I just noticed Entropy seems to just pause every so often and hang there, CPU utilization drops significantly. By simply moving the mouse, CPU utilization shoots up and it seems to resume where it was. ught it might be the power management settng but I don't have the system configured to sleep or anything like that. That being said, I have the monitor set to sleep but it doesn't appear to be working as it was on all night last night.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
D

I see this happen with Spritz sometimes. It'll be downloading or installing a group of updates and stop until I move the mouse. Once I do so the right progress bar jumps to a higher percentage and it resumes the download or installation. I had it happen yesterday night and it sat there doing nothing until I checked on it and moved the mouse.

Yes that is the same with me. I ended up giving up and just switched back to plain old Gentoo.

Well that doesn't seem like the typical response. If Spritz doesn't work for you, I don't see why you would change distro's, when you can use portato or just use equo from the command line.

From the sounds of it, this is definitely a Spritz bug that needs to be addressed. If a bug-report hasn't been filed, it should be. Remember, Spritz is still very new and not perfect by any means. Help us all out by reporting this issue and you can sure that it'll get fixed soon enough.

I just loaded 3.5 on a laptop and it is pausing every other package now that it is installing. Even worse is that it was doing the same crap whe it was downloading the packages.

This would seem like something that would have come up during testing before releasing crap like this.

I updated to the latest it told me to:

0.20.2 I believe. It will not let me run a spritz search entropy right now.

There was a window that suggested to upgrade Entropy and I did then proceeded to d/l and install the other 575 updates. I had to sit there and move the mouse to get it to d/l all the pkgs and now I have to sit here while it installs.

It seems to go longer without "pausing" if I clear the cache in the Spritz window. [Right click in the running tasks window and choose clear.].

This was happening to me a few days ago on a fresh install (I'm not sure if I updated entropy first or not). It would pause when the window was focused and there was no mouse movement, or when there was mouse movement but the window wasn't focused.
