Entropy general question

Postby calvinthomas » Tue Jul 22, 2008 20:07

Hi all, I have recently installed Sabayon 3.5 and am most impressed. One thing i struggle to understand however is why using entropy takes so long? For example if i update my system it takes several hours, I thought working from binaries would make it much faster or am I just getting confused? Are their plans to speed it up in the future?

Great work from everyone however!

Hi,

Yeah the code can only get faster in the future, don't worry about that.
It might be possible you have something like beagle/trackerd (or even worse both) running. They can really slow down things. Try to disable them and try then.

I would guess that was your first update after installation .... yes? There will be quite a bit of updated software since the installation DVD was produced, so the first update is playing "catch up." Subsequent updates will be much quicker (obviously depending how long you leave it between updates).
