... WoW/Wine Troubles ...

Postby Dirtrunner » Tue Jul 22, 2008 18:07

Here we go... WoW and Wine. I have got my system all nice a pretty, except for one thing- WoW. I have followed the Gentoo Wiki instructions, (which are very simple i might add):
Code: Select all
wine {YOUR_DVD_MOUNT_POINT}/Installer.exe

But....

Code: Select all
localhost ian # wine /media/WoW\ DVD/Installer.exe
wine: cannot find '/media/WoW DVD/Installer.exe'

There is probably a thread about this, but i can't find it. What's wrong (besides the obvious Wine can't find the executable)? How do i make it find the .exe?

localhost WoW # wine Installer.exe
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\Installer.exe": Module not found

home/username# cd /media/WoW DVD
media/WoW DVD# wine Installer.exe

Should start the install process. Another good WOW HOWTO is a guide from ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft. Hope this helps :?

wine doesnt "find" anything, you tell it where. example :

wine /home/azerthoth/downloads/ms/something.exe

you give it an absolute path. Alternately you enter the directory, in the above example you would
cd /home/azerthoth/downloads/ms

then

wine something.exe

Another option, if you MUST use a GUI. Using your file manager (koqueror in KDE) get to the folder where the .exe is, right click on it, select Open With, and when the dialog box opens, at the top simply type in wine.

First of all look at the post, i did tell wine exactly were the Installer.exe should be. But i have done all of the possible suggestions for the DVDs and no go, and i have tried to download the client... three days to download something that should only take a couple hours is a no go. Im gonna borrow my friend's CDs, try them, and if not, ill wait the three days. Ill post my results sooner or later (gotta get the disks from friend).

I got WoW installed, and i can log in fine. I EVEN HAVE SOUND! But... The graphics look like crap. 2FPS and no ground, when i go inside the graphics look fine until a certain point, then all the npcs, my character, and tables and stuff turn white, along with my minimap, then i go outside, and there is no text. I did all of the configuring. There seems to be no acount of this issue. Could it be because of my intel graphics card. (Works ok on windows side of comp. Decent graphics, 15-20 FPS). Im not looking for amazing change, just something around where it is on Vista, or hopefully a little better (20-30 FPS)

Did more reading, and i guess im gonna have to get a new vid card. I knew that Intel cards aren't the best for linux, but, i have found info on people getting it to work. I guess im not one of those people. Just i dont think you can get new cards for laptops. Gonna try for nVidia.

PS
Gonna keep trying to solve this, but I think my only hope will be for a nvidia card.
