X doesnt start after update

Hello,

I've just installed Sabayon (I really like it), and I updated my system (and added some other software). It took a long time, and after it was done, I logged off, and a really weird black screen showed up (not the login screen). After a minute still nothing happened, so I pressed CTRL+X and Sabayon restarted, but I didn't get the normal screen; only the command line started! Then I restarted Sabayon, but still that command line! So I tried startx, but it didnt work: Fatal server error: No screens found. Does somebody know how to repair my system? Please help!

updated? what do you mean by updated? - you updated packages or the entire operating system from a previous install?

did you update config files if any needed? how did u update? portage ? equo?

Well, I installed Sabayon 3.5 and I installed some software updates with spritz. (the computer said I had to do that (you know what I mean))

My video card is a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX.

I use Windows at the moment because I can't start x, so I need to restart my computer first before I can use the command, so wait a sec please.

Edit: Some files are updated, but x still doesn't start: Fatal server error: No screens found

I had something similar happen on my first install of sabayon 3.5. Equo/spritz offered the xorg-server update and I installed it. Partway through the process xorg shut down leaving me at a black screen with a cursor. No chance to update config files - text output said installing - ok *poof* xorg was gone before the install was complete. I was unable to get it running and had to re-install. Since then I have avoided the update. It's a bit odd that the package offered is the same version as the one installed by the sabayon install. I have an PNY geforce 6200 and used equo/spritz 0.15.24.1

Maybe it happened with my PC because I lost my Internet connection for a couple of minutes (my parents switched the modem off).

You know what, I am going to try to reinstall Sabayon. I mean, I can't wait longer and it doesn't matter anyway, because there aren't any important files to lose. Thanks anyway.

Hi, the same thing happened to me after an upgrade. My chipset is an interl i810, on an R61i thinkpad. It is a pitty, since everything worked out of the box.
In text mode, I tried to emerge xorg, but it did not work either.

Well I'm not sure but I think Gnome is the problem. I updated my Nvidia drivers and installed the new version of Gnome, What kind of Video Card do you have?
