Please just installed Sabayon yesterday

I get the pop up sayiong there are 21 packages available to update - I click on it +add all packages click OK but it just sits there

I then registerd with launchpad but it is still the same NOT updating or downlaoding the packages

Any ideas please

You need to click on the "package queue" icon and then "process queue"

after you have clicked add all packages you need to go onto the package queue (icon second from bottom) and press process queue

Hopefully the Wiki docs will be done soon :D

welcome aboard colin

glad to see ya from SFNL, nickname havnblast (Kelly) over there

We do have http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=En:Entropy which is the starting point for the package manager. Do keep in mind it is beta and being developed on every day also.

It really is a great distro and fun to learn.

hey Kelly
What a beautiful surprise finding you here

HECK I have bee impatiently/patiently waiting for PCLinuxOS 2008 final but could not bear the stress

So decided to give this a run for it's money

Only thing on install was it I allowed it to take over my linux partitions so ended up with one partition not the three I had

But other than that am deciding IS it going on Lappy and the new AMD4600+ Desky

I'd love to know how you have found Sabayon 3.5 if you care to share

Cheers for years

3.5 is one of our best releases to date IMHO. It gives you way more control with the installation, which was a huge request. I ran into some issues during the beta testing stages, but we hammered them out and by time Loop3 came out, it was working perfectly on my system.

I've been using this distro before it was even called Sabayon, it use to be called RR4 and RR64. While using and doing complete system rebuilds over time I have always had great luck with the work that lxnay does. This distro has come a long ways and now with entropy to do your work for you, it's a dream come true for many people that want to use gentoo without the compilations. My x86 install, which is a couple years old is still and will continue to use portage can compile all my stuff as I prefer that. I have a 64 bit install which I am using now and will keep that on the entropy side.

I had tried entropy when it first came out and didn't care for it, but today's status of entropy is vastly improved and now with a gui called Spritz to top it off. I'm a command line type of person, but Spritz is definitely a much needed application. The entire project is growing and actively developed on. We've gained several worthy people that are now helping with the project also.

The great thing about this distro is you have so many options. It does have a learning curve over other distros, but for the most part the documentation is vast. One of the most documented distros out there. Entropy documentation is getting there slowly and now with the community repos, people are getting more into it. You have past linux experience so I think you will have no problem catching on to all of this. Just give it a chance and I think you will be happy with the results.

By the way, the installer does have the manual options for handling partitions. The grub doesn't detect other distros yet so you have to manually enter in other distros if you decide to redo the install with various operating systems.

Boy oh Boy Kelly

A glowing rendition of sabayon THANK YOU but--->>>It does have a learning curve over other distros Worries ME :o as all was well during the install

Just thought I'd let you KNOWV Sabayon 3.5 is right now at this minute Being Installed on the new AMD4600+ computer (THIS TIME WITH SPECIFIC PARTITIONS - /, /home etc)

So where too from here is anybodies guess because Lappy is going to be TOTALLY Linux NO XP etc and wether Sabayon will detect the wireless card I just don't know

One other query WHY can I no acess Gparted while in "kamicot"

gparted won't work with your user account?

I'm unsure as I never need to use gparted. I did fire it up on one of the beta livedvds and it did work. I would suggest trying firing it up from the command terminal and see what/if there is an errors spit out to give a clue as to why.

If you have it installed and trying to use gparted - than use
Code: Select all
sudo gparted

give it the password when asked and it should fire up.

You will run into other permission things that differ from other distros, like lspci won't work unless you are root so you have to sudo lspci

If you are using KDE you should just be able to hit Alt F2 and type in the command also if you don't want to open terminal
