What on earth happened to my OS? Its so messed!!

Postby kingrattus » Sun Dec 09, 2007 11:39

I installed Sabayon a few hours ago.. it was working great!!! It looked a lot like Ubuntu but worked a lot better on my box. Until NOW!!

I needed to reboot & this is what happened when I did (this is when all hell broke loose).

1. My res. went MUCH lower.
2. The tops of my desktops have vanished on everything except Firefox. (the file, edit, view [x], ect.).
3. I cannot move ANY windows.
4. Firefox is always ontop & I cannot get access to anything else (pidgon, juk, ect).

I was SO MAD I tried to open my dvd drive to just put Ubuntu back on.. WELL my dvd drive no longer works for whatever reason. So I popped in my cd drive & magically that one doesn't work either!!

What on earth is wrong with this OS to cause this??

I'm very flustered as my computer is my ONLY source of entertainment (no tv & no phone) as I cannot afford many "fun" things...

I needed to reboot

Why did you need to reboot? What exactly did you do?
What is your hardware? (as root run lspci and post here)

Also, please post a system log. (run dmesg)

To quicly solve the window borders, from fusion-icon next to your clock select Kwin as your window-decorator

I agree with Joost, sounds like a wm error, you can even click on the fusion icon and click "reload window manager", that should bring back all the menu/title bars on all the windows.
