Konqueror problem gets stuck in photobook mode [Solved]

Postby Richlion » Fri Nov 30, 2007 21:45

Hi All,

I wanted to ask if anyone is having the same problem, I described it here:
http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php ... 359b541033

I am running Sabayon 3.4f Live DVD. And I have exactly the same problem. I use Konqueror to manage lots of pictures, so the Photobook mode is very convenient. When I go through the folders and display my files in Photobook mode, everything works fine until I start zoom in and out and proceed to the next folder. Then Konqueror gets stuck and stops displaying anything. No matter what type of file system, EXT3, JFS or FAT32, the same all the time. I then have to log out and restart the X session. Then everything works fine for a while. Without the Photobook mode everything looks OK.

What could this be? It's an external USB drive 500GB split into 3 partitions :
200GB on EXT3
280GB on JFS
10GB+ on FAT32.
It's not the Linux distro, it's not like the kernel.

Drive is a brand new Lacie.

Thanks in advance,
Richard.

I have seen that either aiglx or a memory bug has done something similar to me with nothing picture related.
O yes with copying 1gb or 2gb of small files to any other partition , konqueror just takes for ages and seems to lockup especially if say looking for folder size using right click properties to get folder size .

I have to end up copying my folders / files using " rsync -urvht /usr/portage /media/sda4 " in text mode instead on Konq. This happens with or without aiglx but seems to be a bit worse with aiglx and before I fix aiglx like in some forums posts. Either way memory bug stays there just works a bit better with aiglx fixed or off.

Also see using "free -m " in terminal waht ram is being used , you would end up with say 1gb folder full of files or more using 99% of 2gb ram installed or at least on mine and only with reboot it clears the ram to normal free space readings or similar even after several hours if not rebooting it stay's full / used ram ??

I have seen that by using the default kde style say plastic if login into root it runs much faster than using a modded theme like SL theme we have by default but again KDE issues.
Could not yet find the real part of KDE causing this.

Man if only we had kde lite or small optimized kde like xfce4 or enlightenment or similar.

Ok, I got a hint from someone on the Mandriva forum to use Gwenview as a plugin, so I installed gwenview.

BTW, I just installed Sabayon... pretty coool.

This gwenview looks amazing, I thing it will be a better tool, it's got all the basic preview functions together with the file panel to move the files around.

Regards,
Richard.

Hi,
yesterday I installed Sabayon. Unfortunately Konqueror crashes on the actions I described. So it's rather related to Konqueror itself. I will have to find out how to report the bug.
