Suggestions? - Network tool - graphical traceroute

Postby tekwyzrd » Sat Nov 24, 2007 21:59

One of the items I occasionally want to use is a visual tracerout program. That is, an application that will map out traceroute results on a map or globe. Unfortunately I have been unable to find anything other than the commercial app Visual Route that is active. The others like xtraceroute have been dead for years. Does anyone know of a foss traceroute mapping app for linux that is still active?

The only one that comes to mind is Nagios (http://www.nagios.org), and only because I read about it recently. Have not used it myself, though. Needs to run on an Apache server if I understand correctly. Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for.

EDIT: GTrace looks more like what you're after:

but not in Portage and no ebuild in the Gentoo Bugzilla either, so you'd have to create your own ebuild.

Unfortunately both gtrace and xtraceroute seem to be dead. The last gtrace version was version 1.0.0 beta released 11/5/99 and the last xtraceroute was version 0.9.1 released 4/25/03.

Looks like you'll either have to use one of the many good Windows graphical traceroute utilities or go for an online version such as:

http://www.logbud.com/visual_trace

Pity. Seems Linux is behind Windows on this one.

Depending on how keen you are, you could download the RPM of the beta of Path Analyzer Pro from here:

https://www.pathanalyzer.com/download.opp

and create your own ebuild for it (quite a few ebuilds actually use RPMs).

Looks quite useful.
