wmv files dont play well in smplayer or any player

I find that when I open my WMV files they look all garbled and discolored. this is only with WMV files. all my AVI and other video files play fine. is there a codec or something I can update to fix this? thanks.

Could be a missing codec. But since Sabayon comes with almost any codec you can think of, you are more likely talking about DRM-protected files; unfortunately there's no way to play them under linux. That garbage is intended for Windows (and MacOS) only.
