Java 6 update 3 install issue -help! [Solved]

how do i solve this, should i just wait till i can emerge it in about a week.
jre-6u3-linux-amd64.bin this is the version im using - ive got a 64 bit version sabayon 3.4e
this is the sdk version too, as i am doing a course in java programming and want to compile drjava and use it in linux (then i can say byebye to vista for almost everything)

Hi

I assume you've got this fixed by now as portage has been updated to the latest versions of java.

In portage you can emerge either:
sun-jdk - This is the 64-bit version and is saved in /opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.03
or
emul-linux-x86-java - This is the 32-bit version which can be run in 64-bit Sabayon and saved in /opt/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6.0.03

If you open up a konsole and type in java-config -L it will show you what versions of java are on your system. E.g on my system is says:

dave@sabayonx86-64 ~ $ java-config -L
The following VMs are available for generation-2:
1) Blackdown JDK 1.4.2.03 [blackdown-jdk-1.4.2]
*) Sun 32bit JRE 1.6.0.03 [emul-linux-x86-java-1.6]
3) Sun JDK 1.6.0.03 [sun-jdk-1.6]

The * indicates which one is the default version.

To change version just type in java-config -s [n] ([n] can be either 1,2 or 3 in my case)

problem no1
no internet connection due to proxyies not working!!

cant emerge anything see above

installed 32bit java got it to work tried running drjava and it complianed there was no class definintion or something

problem no4
everything on the wireless works other than internet, ive connected to our local network i even pinged my friends computer
ive set up a file called 99local and files proxy.sh and proxy.csh still doesnt work. tried pinging google no hope whatso ever.
any chance ive discovered a bug?

Hi

Are you sure that your DNS server entries are set up correctly. You can find them in the /etc/resolv.conf file. If this file is empty then this could be your problem. For a home ADSL router connection this is usually the IP address of your router. E.g. My file contains the following: nameserver 192.168.1.254

yea it was the DNS, ive got it fixed now thankfully, just need to setup emerge to use the http proxy
