Getting a VCD to play? and USB audio? How do get them to wor

Postby mikey0000 » Sun Sep 23, 2007 23:10

ok first
VCDs crash every program, why? and how can i fix this? Have i missed some secret program that will play them as there are alot of movie players.

second ive got a logitech headset for gaming with a usb adapter, i dont want to use the normal plugs becouse the sound is crap.
it detects the usb and all looks well in sound control, kmix. But still no sound in Amarok or even the system.
How can i Fix this?

I've been working with linux for 2 years and i still am as stuck as the first year (not being able to update was never helpful ether though)

also if i update would it fix these problems if so what is the command for updating

thank you!!!

Not sure what Sabayon version you are using but as root in terminal using "alsaconf" should be able to fix the sound if something is driver / firmware side needed.

Not sure if messing with amarok or kmix might help but I presume that it has to be set to the actual device to be used if possible and this could also help but likely you already tried it.
Depending on usb sound device it might need something like LFE or something to be active or not in kmix ??

Possibly in the wiki top right of this page or the search / advanced search or gentoo.org forums /wiki for specific device can help and can be implemented here.

Hope this gets you started or in the right direction.

VCD might try VLC as I know this works for me or as root in terminal "emerge -s vcd" to search then "emerge vcd" using correct names from search as this should install vcd again and or fix what is missing.

Also "emerge -s ati" or "emerge -s nvidia" to see if you have the correct driver as nvidia 6600 or later can use 100.?? nvidia driver and before uses legacy driver.

As root in terminal "glxgears" and if error then driver / opengl type settings could be unhappy , see wiki for correct how to to fix this if it is. Turning compiz /acceleration of might work as well and test this with glxgears before and after if needed.
