no acceleration with nvidia

Postby donpaco » Mon Aug 28, 2006 19:42

Hello everybody, first congratulation for this beautiful system!

Ok, now i've 2 little problems:

first my nvidia card seems to work normaly, i've got the nvidia screen before kdm and my desktop has a good screen resolution. but i can't have any acceleration, the opengl screensavers are nearly freezed and also with google earth :S

second, i don't know if it's relationed with the nvidia problem, but between the nvidia screen and the launch of kdm, it's veeeeeeeeeeey long time, maybe 25-30!

can someone help me please?

Okay, make sure you are using the nvidia drivers for your opengl by typing as root
Code: Select all
# eselect opengl set nvidia

For the second problem, we've seen this, xorg-x11 and xorg-server 1.1/7.1 reduce the time somewhat and if you update to nvidia-drivers the newest in our overlay (follow the howto, just search ;) ) then it'll alleviate the pain somewhat. However, there is still an ~15sec interval...we are looking into fixes

OK, THANKS! Now opengl works fine, i don't understand why because in my xorg.conf there was nvidia but ... it works .... nearly !

Now (i've a belgian keyboard) i can't put accents and so on with my keyboard, but i didn't have this problem before

"eselect opengl set nvidia"

know it replace the accents etc into 2 little squares :s

I've that problem only with kde and the kde application, not with firefox for example

Perhaps you need to install the proper locales, search kde.org for what to emerge :)

i've emerged the locales, kde is entirely in french, but still the same problem, and sometimes i've got another, my mouse got frozen, and the only way to make it work, it's to disconect it from usb and just reconnect it :s

well as i'm telling all my problems, i've got another one (not for disturb you, just for hlp you ;) )
but i've a program running named syndock and noway to not autostart it, and when i close it it always crash, i've no synaptic mouse so ... :s

maybe i can uninstall it with package manager, but that's not a good way to correct a bug :D

Last thing: I LOVE the sabayon theme !!!

Just right click and close it or configure to not start at startup. You can also install ksynaptics which should help with your mouse...not sure why it would just auto kill itself...very odd...
