Quake 4

Postby EvoCaliber » Sat Jun 23, 2007 16:35

Hi,

First off id like to thank the Sabayon crew for an excellent distro, now to the actual question.

I have problems following the Quake 4 installation guide found here in the wiki.
Sorry, I'm still not too comfortable with everything Linux. So, if some could explain the steps in
a bit more detail, or point me to a site which has the info.

Download the latest installer and follow this guide here:
http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/quake4/
That's what I did, works really well!
edit: the game starts in Spanish for some strange reason, u have to manually edit ~/.quake4/q4base/Quake4Config.cfg in your home folder.
Good luck and happy gaming!

If your cd will automount all you need to do is emerge quake4-data and then follow the instructions.
You may need to emerge quake4-bin after that and don't worry about broken glass when opening the cd directory in a new window just open it anyway.

I actually found it a lot easier to load the Quake4 DVD and then USE="cdinstall" emerge quake4-bin
Then I had to apply that stupid Spanish/English fix. :D

All I did was inset the DVD and emerge quake4-data (it automatically pulls quake4-bin), make sure you have USE="cdinstall" and your done.

Is Quake 4 free or something now? Since there is a full installer available and you can emerge the data :?:
