HDD light on continuously

Hi,
I have just installed Sabayon 3.4e. A few problems on the way but have got over these.
Now the HDD light is on all the time. I am concerned at this, as I have no idea if it is running a daemon or something that it shouldnt or if I have a setting set incorrectly.
I am running a multi boot Linux system with 3 hard drives 2 ide and i Sata II.
Motherboard is an Asrock939 Dual Sata 2, I Gb memory and AMD64 3200+ processor FX5050 agp video card. Standard system.
Never come across this issue on other flavours of Linux.
Had the same problem with the Sabayon64 bit installation too. Removedthis to install the 32 bit version
Any help appreciated.

It is not maybe using the light as a combined read for all the drives or even the led cable connected to a wrong connection / or wrong way around connected to the pins I can remeber having somethign similar a few years ago on another Os and was wrong pins connected for me.

Thanks for the reply.
I looked on the Gentoo forum too and it seems that it has/is happening to others and there is as yet no solution for me. I have just updated to Sabayon 3.4 f and the problem remains.
The other Linux flavours that i run on this setup do not have the same problem. It isn't a cable connection issue it must be something in a module, driver or setup file but it is beyond me to know where to look or resolve.
I must admit it makes me nervous.

Have you tried running top to see what is running?

I have run TOP (thanks didn't know about that command) but like the KSysguard process table. I don"t have enough knowledge to know which might be the process causing the access light to be on.
Apart from killing each one in turn - possibly worth the risk of trying that approach

What are the names (COMMAND) of the applications at the top of the list? Are there any that have a large TIME+ value or large %CPU value?

I also had the hard light on continuously in an earlier version of Sabayon. I never did find an answer to it, but version 3.4a magically solved the problem. I run Sabayon on my first ide hard drive and have an additional ide drive and a sata drive. No other operating system ever gave me the same problem. It never sounded to me like my hard drive was actually running, but I was never sure. Perhaps it was just a fluke in the install. I thought it might have been related to beagle indexing but really never saw any indication of that.

When I run top I get a varying list of files at the top of the list. The active ones, some of which are intermittent in the list, include:
X, kded, hald-adon-stor, compiz, artsd, top , init.
None of them have high uses for anything. X is the highest (which seems to be right as it is running the window).
