Compiz startup trouble.

I'm having trouble starting Compiz Fusion in 3.4e. It worked fine on the liveDVD, but after hard install, no dice.

Here is the error message that I get whenever I try to manually execute it from the console, ie compiz-start...

compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0


My video card:
nVidia Corporation G72M [GeForce Go 7400] (laptop)

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like the /etc/X11/xorg.conf is not propperly configured otherwise it should have a screen linked to display 0.0 .

Use the nvidia cpntrol panel and let it change the screen size one size smaller and then back to normal + let it save and replace xorg.conf if asked , this might fix it. emerge nvidia-settings might need to be installed as well if not already or even reinstall the nvidia drivers making sure /etc/make.conf has sdl and opengl in the USE=" " or add them if not already there.

Then make sure to install sdl and opengl as well.
emerge -s sdl
emerge -s opengl
then with correct names install them without the -s option.

Hope this helps also check some of the other post's in the forum using search top right of this page as likely someone found a fix for this.

Well as it turns out, compiz was glitching because I had disabled icons in KDE. So this problem is solved.

Now I'm having trouble with Emerald.
