Help with Promise EIDE pci expansion card

Yup same team same side no use to cut your nose of to spite your face it does not help. Either way we need them and they need us more than any side can imagine.

Promisde Eide it might during live dvd set the hd's to /dev/sda and once it boots it , the actual hd becomes /dev/sdb or vice versa not sure the easiest way is to get into the live dvd then mount the hd / promise connected drives and see how the grub list them and also run say cfdisk as cfdisk will defualt load the partitions of the first hd it perceives /dev/sda if it is correct or not label for that drive you would be able to see. To access the 2nd hd you will need to "cfdisk /dev/sdb"

Maybe you can list how the hd's /dvd is via live dvd and or how many and to what are they connected. Bios also has a affect on this as it might want to have the hd's on the motherboard eide / sata connector as first hd's making them /dev/sda and the promise then as dafualt gets to be 2nd / 3rd device , /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc you get the idea. The older scsi cards used to do this a lot in the past. You could also try to disable the inbuilt eide / sata of the motherboard and only use the promise as default device not sure if the bios will allow this.

If all else fails connect the eide on the promise to a usb device or get sataII card + wd400kd for us$10 + us$80 + shipping and partition the 400gb hd into several partitions.

Come to think of it vmware will give you direct hd / hardware access from inside windows /other linux distro and installing linux inside vmware might also work well for you + very good speeds if you need to keep the hardware you have now.

I forgot once you install you write the grub not to MBR but to the actual hd itself that would contain SL. Then once in windows you edit the boot.ini I think and this way you can add the promise now being /dev/??? and it should then duirng boot show up as 2nd boot option to windows , then select and the grub on the SL hd would start to load. I have see the how-to for this not sure where.

Hope this helps and possibly list the hd's /dvd's you have maybe we can cheat this monster and get it to work.
