2 question for he who has used windows till now

Postby ARTIMUS_MK9 » Mon Aug 27, 2007 18:33

so as the topic said, I have 2 questions the first you'll be able to answer right off, I know, but the second maybe not

1. how do you restart the Xserver?
2. I had all of the desktop effects/desktop acceleration working fine but then I go to bed and wake up the next morning and the whole screen is black cept the mouse (accidentally left my machine on all night) and I restart the comp and I see the compiz icon in the sys tray but I have no acceleration or desktop effects, not even emerald is working

as for my machine I have

graphics card: nvidia Geforce 6200
CPU: amd athalon 2100+
sound card: sound blaster audigy SE
RAM: 712 MB
35GB hard drive (well the sabayon partition is 35GB, saved the other half for windows cuz I need it for school)

this problrm occured when I enabled my secon monitor, I restarted the Xserver accidentally so I don't actually KNOW how to do it.

ok, so after playing with the settings for a while, I found out that (for me) this only happens when Xinerama is enabled (cuz I have 2 monitors and I want the second monitor to work too) but when I disable Xinerama, the second monitor is like a completely different desktop, not to mention that emerald wont work on it and the only thing that gives any hint that they are together is that they are here on my desk and that my mouse can go between them

ok, was playing with the settings some more and it seems that aixgl doesn't like to work while the "absolute positioning" setting is on in the nvidia Xserver settings.
