Quake 4 crashing [Solved]

Hi there !

I had to do a fresh Sabayon install and put on quake4 again. On my old install (based on sabayon 3.4 loop3) quake4 had no probs.
Now with sabayon 3.4e im a bit clueless to get it working:

installed quake4-bin 1.4.2
copied the needed pak-files from my dvd
tried to start the smp version:

./quake4smp.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.id.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

thats all i get

starting the normal version:

Loading GL driver 'libGL.so.1' through SDL
Initializing SDL subsystem
Loading GL driver 'libGL.so.1' through SDL
Fatal Error: Unable to initialize OpenGL

i dont know where to search for the problem - ut2004 is running fine..


plz help me killing stroggs again :D

SDL is or should e same as opengl / directx version for linux basically.
Have to install / update it or even the reinstalling the video drivers would fix this.

emerge -s sdl

http://gentoo-portage.com/media-libs/libsdl

:oops:

i made a great mistake - my first sabayon install was based on 32bit
my actual is 64 bit

this night i reinstalled 3.4a 32bit - installed q4 and voila everything is fine.

maybe anyone knows how to play q4 with 64 bit sabayon.

I couldn't believe that i didn't manage to get Quake4 working with 64Bit Sabayon.
I tried it again and this time i found a solution that worked for me:

error was:

I reinstalled the nvidia-drivers and then the stroggs had to run for cover again :D

Good stuff just what the doctor ordered for the grogs LOL , I would never have though the video driver reinstalling would fix libsdl??? .

So it actually does run on 64 bit. Many prolems reported (what I've read so far). Good news !
