My 9600 pro still doesnt work in 3.4e.it's still a problem here...i expect exactly as you, to work. And this sabayon version doesen't.The nvidia drivers are crap, but the ati drivers are worsed.I still hope the sabayon dream with compiz, and ati, can be reality.if you find a way to fix this please post it.till then 3.3 its the lates stable version for me.Thanx

I have had the same problems using an ATI 9800 Pro with the Asus A7N8X mobo...

I believe that I have found a solution, I had to rebuild the kernel with support for the NVIDIA nForce/nForce2 chipset.

The option that I used was found under Device Drivers-> Character devices-> NVIDIA nForce/nForce2... when I followed the wiki howto http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... _genkernel and then changed the --menuconfig to --xconfig

Works now, here's what I did:
Here's what I had to do to get sabayon to load w/ my Ati card. Warning- you will not have acceleration until after you install the program.

when the boot screen shows up, hit F5
add noaccelmanager to the options list and hit enter. the dvd will boot all the way. once at the desktop, I clicked on update installer. After that finished, you can click on install, and the graphical installer will load.

Once I installed Sabayon this way, it installed with acceleration and all options. tried a couple of the 3d games and they worked. They were a bit jerky, but then I have an old Ati 8500DV AIW which isn't the fastest card on the block ;)
