Can't rip as FLAC anymore (cd juicer)

Today I installed the Sabayon 3.4e update (did a fresh install) and then after all was set up and good, I did emerge --sync && layman -S (as superuser). I decided to update FLAC (Sabayon's included is 1.1.2; latest is 1.1.4). That went smoothly (and so did the revdep-rebuild after the update.) I opened Sound Juicer (my preferred cd ripper) and went to the preferences window. I clicked the drop down for file type to rip as and FLAC was missing (it usually says "CD Quality, Lossless (FLAC)" or something to that extent.) I checked the profiles and it was there, but it's not in the drop down menu. I went to my terminal and updated Sound Juicer through Portage (there was a small update to it anyways.) After that, still no FLAC. Is there something I can do to restore my FLAC-ripping capabilities?

Ok, KAudioCreator works fine ripping as FLAC, but Sound Juicer is still unable to.

Now I have more problems. I just re-installed Sabayon (for reasons unrelated to this problem) and I updated FLAC and Sound Juicer (and subsequently ran revdep-rebuild.) Now KAudioCreator is giving me error messages when it tries to encode (it says something about "unable to create folders" or something like that), Sound Juicer still doesn't allow me to rip as FLAC, and I tried Asunder but it crashes eveytime I hit OK in the settings window.

Has any of this happened to anyone? I really would like to be able to rip my music again.

Ok, I've done some reading on different lossless codecs, and I found this on Wikipedia:

The API underwent fundamental changes in the version 1.1.3 which break the compilation of all existing players using libFLAC. Nobody knows how fast developers can or will adapt to these changes.

It seems FLAC underwent some changes in 1.1.3 that are likely the cause of my problems. I guess I'll have to wait for the latest version to be supported. Until then, I'm using WavPack.

or use again the working flac version! and rebuild sound-juicer again! Like this:

as you can see not all the time an upgrade to a never version is a good choice. this is a twist side of linux world. sometimes never!=better. and portage do not know that.

Hey. What version of Asunder was that? If it was 0.8.1 will you help me figure out the problem? I'd like to fix it if the bug is still there.

I take it you're an Asunder dev? I'm not sure what version it was. It may have been 0.8.1, but I'm not sure. That was almost a month ago. I've since done a fresh install of the latest Sabayon and have not had a need to use Asunder. I might test it for you sometime soon, though. I'll keep you posted.

Yeah I'm the new maintainer. I fixed a few bugs before releasing 0.8 and a couple more in 0.8.1, so I hope that you've been seing the problem in an older version.
