VMWare doesn't start at all

Postby fede » Fri Aug 10, 2007 9:33

My problem is simply....to explain
Sabayon BE (kerner 2.6.22)

i installed vmware-vorkstation version 5.5.4.44386.
i run vmware-config.pl

when i run it this error appear:
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
Code: Select all
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/opt/vmware/workstation/bin/vmware-config.pl.

this situation doesn't change even after run vmware-confi again.
even after installing the any-any path, but with no results.

i tried to install from the bin too (VMware-workstation-5.5.0-18463.tar.gz), but even after emerge -C
the gentoo package the install fails

bye, FF

There is an old problem with vmware like this. It's a nonconfig.pl or something. You can do a search on google or just look in /opt/vmware/ or maybe /etc/vmware/ for a file with nothing on it and I believe its called nonconfig.???
Once you find it just delete it.

Someone told me tha virtual box is even faster than vmware, but winxp or win2000 crash randomly with virtualbox.
I searched in forums an so, and it seems to be a known problem.

i use Sabayon BE, and i haven't Virtual Machine Manager..... i wil try.

Wolf den vmware-server sucks, when you want to creat a virtual machine it creates a non-self expanding hard disk so if you wanted your so called virtual disk to be 20 gigabytes it will take a chunk of 20 gigabytes out of your harddrive space.

What i mean is In a regualar Virtual Machine what ever harddrive space is used in a vritaul machine is the size on the disk
In vmware server whatever the virtual machines hard drive size is the size on the disk regardless of what is in the virtual machine.
