Suggestions&Questions

Postby seth » Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:30

I was wondering about some things:

1) FTP always with the maximum number of allowed user, BitTorrent not working (I tried with opera and Firefox for FTP and with the BitTorrent.com client)

>>> Any suggestion? Is it possible to create a queue so that people can get a "ticket"? So, if I have ticket 12 I know that I should get a chance to download in e.g. two days. Is there some time in which less people is downloading? is there any other BitTorrent client that works? I read on the foprum that someone achieved to download via Torrent, I really never achieve to even start!

2) Any news on MiniCd for SL RC2?

3) is it possible in the future to plan something to involve more people of the community into the project? It would be nice to make a kind of "Sabayon Software" with an uniform style, interaction between modules and so on, made with parts of programs and graphics and so on coded by people that likes sabayon. I think it could make more people get interested in SL and give this distro something unique.

Thank you and hello everybody

yeah I've read it all around, and Rjpa (hope I've written it correctly) said he could maybe give an ftp for download for the final release, but some people said they got the iso from BitTorrent, many say "the best way is getting it from the torrent" and so on, but, as many other wrote, there are trac errors and so on... so I was wondering id there is ANYTHING that we can do to get it... maybe another bittorrent client works? is there anything we can do now? A guy on the forume wrote "I'm sorry I can't try this distro"... the problem is I've been trying for a week and I don't know what else to try. Is it possible to use also other peer to peer? I'm not criticizing, I just want to know how to get it. If there's no way, well, no problem, but at least I will know :P

well I know my torrent had people constantly connected to it. I dunno why the tracker gets errors, but we really need people to seed. Bittorrent is a great concept when people use it right. Last couple days I uploaded 10+GB - I just wish my upload speeds were better

I am happy that people is seeding, and I'd like to seed too if I just had a chance to get the iso. Is it possible to explain better about seeding / leechers / peer? I admit I am not a master of Bit Torrent...

Thank you Wolfden!!!

The survival of a torrent depends on the people.

I click on a torrent link and my bittorrent program Azureus kicks in and starts downloading. As I download others can download from me the parts that I have downloaded, this mode is called leeching. Once it completes the download, it drops down to the completed panel and than turns into a seed. Leaving Azureus run 24/7 allows others to be able to download the complete torrent from me.

The more seeds the more availability and bandwidth is available for others to download the file. A torrent with 100 seeds will download much faster than a torrent with 2 seeds. No seeders = no file, so it's up to the people to keep a file alive.

Trackers can go up and down, but generally once your connected to fellow peers(people your leeching from) you can still download regardless, but you need the initial download to start.

I just did the 64bit one, I don't know the stats of the 32bit one. I am hearing people are stuck with lengthy downloads. I notice the seeds on the 64 bit range from 11 to 30, which isn't a lot. All I can say is keep trying cause it is definately worth it.

Thank you :)
I got it correctly then. I should maybe try to download azureus again, maybe it works better. The client offered by bittorrent.com raise and error saying there are no peers to leech from, and it never starts. Maybe with another client that has more capabilities (as I seem to remember azureus and bitlords have) it will get easier to download. I hope this post might help people using bittorrent.com or opera for torrents if this is really the problem...
Again, thank you for help!
