I'm using firefox but when I try to install an add-on, I click the button and nothing happens, so I have to open the download link in a new tab and then about five minutes later the firefox add-ons menu comes up and then I can install it. Can this be fixed?

EDIT: Does this have anything to do with firefox 2.0.0.2 becaue when the menu finally does come up for me to install it nothing happens because it says it is not compatible with firefox 2.0.0.2.

Hi

Are you trying to install addons via portage or Firefox ?

If you are trying via Firefox i.e. when a box appears saying "missing plugin ..." then it is notoriously bad in Linux and probably won't work. In fact, I've only ever got this method to work in Windows.

In general, if you want to install addons then do it via portage is the safe bet.

What addon were you trying to install ?

I'm installing them from the addons.mozilla... page. I've tried multiple addons and none of them work.

Hi

I think you need to install them via portage. That addons mozilla page is rubbish for installing addons in Linux. I've never managed to get one installed from that page.

I disagree 100%! My experience has been the opposite. I use StumbleUpon, Foxmarks and various others and they all install and run just as well in Linux as in Windows. In fact I had cause to install Mandriva on a laptop only two days ago and every plugin I needed to install went without a hitch. In fact I will add another one now just to prove it, wait there....

Yep! Snap-Links installed in under a minute (including restarting Firefox). This is on Mandriva but I have the same plugins (plus flash etc) installed on Sabayon. I think you should re-install Firefox,

Sorry, I've been reading this thread all wrong I thought he was talking about installing plugins like Flash, acrobat reader etc. I didn't release he was talking about normal addons.
