Postby sanjeev » Tue Aug 07, 2007 15:49

Can i take xdeltas given for 3.4a and use with the loop3 that I have downloaded couple weeks ago!?
Or will there be xdeltas provided for loop3 to 3.4e??

Thanks in advance

What is all this?
My broadcom card is broken (read:very slow) in 3.4a
So i was just going to d/l the 3.4e dvd and upgrade.

this looks much much much much much faster,
is it too much to ask for a how-to?

this link should probably be closer to the top...

http://www.sabayonlinux.org/wiki/index. ... Use_xdelta

its not very self explanatory, when no one has ever explained it to you...

but very cool that i can go back to native wireless after less than a week... not that i would have stuck with loop 3 just to forgo ndiswrapper...

So thats means that I should burn a new DVD every mouth or more often.

No what he means is when you download a new release, there is an upgrade section meaning that by using this you can actually upgrade your install to the latest release without losing data. If you'll read the bottom of the release notes you'll see how to upgrade.

how to use what?

you need your 3.4a iso and xdeltas all in the same location. I normally create a folder slx86 and I dump my 3.4a iso and my xdeltas in that folder. I fire up konsole and cd to my slx86 folder:

Code: Select all
cd slx86

than I perform the commands as given, 1 line at a time of course:

Code: Select all
split -d -b 2000000000 SabayonLinux-x86-3.4a.iso sabayon.new.0
xdelta patch sl-x86-3.4a-to-3.4e-0.xdelta sabayon.new.000 new.000
xdelta patch sl-x86-3.4a-to-3.4e-1.xdelta sabayon.new.001 new.001
xdelta patch sl-x86-3.4a-to-3.4e-2.xdelta sabayon.new.002 new.002
cat new.00* > SabayonLinux-x86-3.4e.iso
md5sum SabayonLinux-x86-3.4e.iso
e902da21299736f52b075af58f0dc91c

you do this as user, not root. you can do it as root, but than you will have to change the file permission on your final iso.

the xdeltas are only for 3.4a, there is no xdeltas for the loops
