The alternative

The alternative is the Tracker search tool, IMO Tracker is alot better, since it finds things FASTER than Beagle, plus it is much lighter on memory. Plus Tracker integrates with the Affinity Search tool (search eyecandishly!) otb.

Is'nt Beagle a search tool?
If the Beagle daemon (which indexes things for Beagle) won;t work then use Tracker!

I don't use Beagle either, but perhaps KRA wants to get it working, or at least know that it's not broken.

From the error message posted, it looks like the file glib-sharp is missing on KRA's PC. I typed the following into a Terminal window:

Code: Select all
sudo find / -iname glib-sharp

and the result was:

Code: Select all
/usr/lib/mono/gac/glib-sharp

so could an "emerge" KRA has performed previously have removed this file? With my limited knowledge of SL, I would have started by trying:

Code: Select all
sudo revdep-rebuild -X

and, if that didn't work:

Code: Select all
sudo emerge beagle

Would that help him/her?

Thanks it seems to be working now.

thanks to Fitzcarraldo for pointing me in the right direction. Quite a few revdep-rebuild, seperate emerge and ebuild digesting later it is working. But I have no idea what was wrong though.

oh, and the "revdep-rebuild -X" didn't work, it complained about the -X, so I ran it without the -X

The only problem I had with Kerry Beagle (I use KDE), is that the service didn't start automatically, even when I launched Kerry manually.

I just emerged beagle (not kerry) again, new version was available, and now the indexing stays enabled on start of Kerry Beagle(you have to enable session-saving too or put in in your autostart folder to start the application in the first place of course).

I have never experienced slow speeds when kerry(beagle) is enabled.
