Audacity and Sound Out

Postby brodders » Mon Jul 23, 2007 10:51

Hi,

Installed Audacity via portage on my 3.4 loop2 HD install - a month or so ago.

Can record & edit but - No playback!

None of the listed outputs seems to drive the sound layer :( yet VLC and other music players work fine.

This is on an Asus KN9 nForce4 mb with in built sound.

Sound layers in Linux are pretty evil - given I have played with all the options in Audacity Preferences and all the output / inputs and switches in the mixer - what next?

:) ..help!

I personally don't think its a mobo problem. I'm using an HP livestrong L2000 special edition laptop with an ATI motherboard and I have the same problem. I think its just audacity. I got mad and removed and tried to remerge it.... I got nothin' , nada, was right back to where I started.

Audacity has never played back for me in any distro, even though I have all the codecs. I use it mainly for flac to mp3. I've never known how to fix it.

I did learn something about Krec lately though... It seems U need to go into the sound settings in the control center and check the box "Full Duplex" to get recording/playback to work. here is what I did to get Krec working(I use KDE). I went into control center, then sound and multimedia, then sound system, then I went to the Hardware tab, then the first dropdown box on top I chose ALSA and underneath it is a check box for "Full Duplex", check that box.

That makes Krec work, I'd try it with audacity and see if it makes it work also..

Hi,

! never had a problem with Audacity playback before. Every distro I've tried it on has been OK - which is why I've asked about it.

Not at the right machine to try ideas; will take a look later.

Got tired and installed Ubuntu Gutsy. Audacity is fine.

Hi,

I tried to set full duplex... i can see the indicator in krec move as i speak into the mic. But when i record and then try to play the recording - nothing. I changed the settings in alsamixer. Cannot find the solution nor what causes this problem. this is the only problem with this great dist. Acctually the best one ive tried so far in my 12 years on and off with linux.
