How to start compiz fusion

Postby thecat » Sun Jul 29, 2007 8:22

In 3.4 l.oop 3 I choose acceleration manager, XGL desktop accelation and at reboot started Beryl.
When I do that in 3.4a, and click on the compizconfig icon on the desktop it shows up in the systemtray but no 3d desktop.
Is the procedure different in 3.4a now beryl was replaced with compizfusion?

Thanks for the replies. In the meanwhile I used the post in the wiki about compizfusion.
Selecting the windows manager with richtclicking doesn do the trick. Itś already selected.
typing 'compiz-start' in a console gives me error messages:

In the terminal is says:
Using KDE decorator
Starting Compiz with: --replace ccp --sm-disable
compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension
X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
Major opcode: 158
Minor opcode: 4
Resource id: 0x0
X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
Major opcode: 158
Minor opcode: 4
Resource id: 0x0

A new error window opens and says:

Compiz cannot be started. Please check that you have a working and supported Video Card, OpenGL functionality or visit Sabayon Linux Support forum at: http://www.sabayonlinux.org/forum
GPU: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]

Beryl worked OK in 3.4 loop3. I sure hope I don have to revert to 3.4 loop3 to het the 3d desktop working. Any ideas?

That's all you need.

We get so many of these questions, I hope a mod stickies that topic.

I read the post and followed the steps but still no luck.
I adjusted the xorg.conf file and added
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

I tried in a terminal the line:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib compiz --sm-disable --replace ccp

It doesn't do anything to my system, not even when typing su in a terminal first.

# - emerald --replace does't help either. It just keeps telling me that composite is not enabled.

I'm close to removing compiz fusion and returning to beryl. That worked out of the box with my ATI Radeon 9550 card.

Please, any ideas. Do I need to post the output of any command?

Btw, somehow I got the gdm when boot instead of the KDE one. Would that have anything to do with it?

I had a similar problem on Radeon X1300 :( In my case Compiz-Fusion started, but when I right-clicked on the fusion-icon it showed Kwin as the window manager. And when I ticked Compiz - I lost the frames of the windows and everything was very slow. I switched to beryl, it works much better...

i got it working on the ati 9550, what i did

reemerged the ati drivers
added to xorg.conf
Code: Select all
Section "Extensions"
   Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

fixed the window library

Code: Select all
# LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib compiz --sm-disable --replace ccp

and finally started compiz

dunno if it was one thing or all the things but its working now

gotta figure out how to autostart compiz

Compiz fusion

Postby treaz » Thu Aug 02, 2007 13:39

Situation: Installed sabayon 3.4a first time from the live DVD (as u know acceleration manager jumps up and asks for instructions) and compiz worked fine. Various issues forced me to reinstall, but this time directly from the boot menu. Fact: the acceleration manager never started. Fact: after the install compiz would not work. I have a geforce6 echivalent onboard chip. I will be back this the results of an install from sabayon live.

EDIT: Ok, so, I started a session with acceleration manager and i chose aixgl, after that i logged in with the default session and compiz was working. I guess someone should have written this in a manual.
