Whats wrong with emerge?

Keep in mind theres only so much you can fit in 4GB so if you want something included you might have to find something to remove first.

It's interesting to see how many posts we get like this. How does one justify that the majority of Sabayon users (or future users) need out-of-the-box 3D design/rendering capability? Or the need for alternate audio players?

Learn to emerge, and Amarok ftw, respectively.

blender is included in sabayon BE, if you want it on sabayon normal edition you can emerge it yourself, it's a waste of time and space including that kind of software in two different edition

sabayon is a kitchen-sink distro, ideal for those without internet connections, and my mate who oddly enough desires both blender and audio editing packages hasn't got a connection.

if this was an rpm derived distro it would not be an issue, but it isn't, and portage doesn't work very well on imaginary internet connections.

i also use blender, but i don't mind not having it installed by default because when i recompile and do a little house cleaning, I will need to upgrade blender anyway, which takes the same amount of time to install it. In fact it saves me a few seconds ( the unmerge part of blender after upgrading it. lol).
you could also download it for him and put it in a USB stick, then do a manual source install (or even use portage by playing with the ebuild.)

Erm, no its not. Installing programs offline is a hassle because you have to download the right sources, place them in there right directory then download all the patches the ebuild wants and place them in the right directory as well, then edit the ebuild if you have a different version of sources.

Sabayon is one of the worst offline distros.
