Screen depth

I wonder why do I have 24 bit depth in every linux distro (Sabayon, Ubuntu, Fedora) instead of 32 bit?
Should I try to modify the xorg.conf and create a subsection with this value and then select it as default, or it won't work?
I know that my screen supports it, as I have 32 bits depth in Windows.

the worst that will happen is your X won't start

I have tried adding the lines for 32 bit depth on the xorg.conf and the X did not start, so I am back again to 24.
Should I change the monitor description, as it says "Generic monitor"?
I may have to type here my monitor (I have a Flatron ez T710BH). How can I put this information on the xorg.conf file?

Make sure your
VertRefresh 50-160
HorizSync 30-71
are correct - just adjust the numbers to the specs of your monitor.

Basically all I worry about is the res settings and the Vert and Horiz

As I understand it, 24 is 32 bit really.
It's just that linux is a bit more honest about it - 24 of the 32 bits is used for colour, the other 8 bits for other 'stuff' (Sorry if I got a bit techie there).

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm this?
