Slow Compiz Fusion

Postby bwat47 » Mon Jul 30, 2007 18:01

I've tried Many Distros, and many different Versions of COmpiz/Beryl (And many different Nvidia drivers), and now compiz fusion with Sabayon. My problem is that compiz is VERY jerky with many of the animations. For example the minimize/unminimize aniamation is very jerky and slow, the same is for creating/closing windows. The thing that is strange is effects such as cube/water/fire/expo all are very smooth, but the most important and most used animations are jerky as hell. Wobbly windows seem ok but in fusion it causes alot more screen tearing and is slower then previous versions of compiz where wobbly windows have always been fine on my pc. Is there anyway to fix this? I have tried using different animations but it doesn't make a difference. I have vista on ym other drive and aero runs flawlessly, I am starting to get fed up with compiz's performance, I would quite like to use it but it should be much faster.

My Computer is as follows

P4 3.0 Ghz HT
1 GB DDR400 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7600GS 256MB
160 GB HDD
19" widescreen Monitor @ 1440x900

Try this:

right-click on the fusion-icon.
go to Compiz Options
enable Loose Binding

I also had jerky animations when minimizing, etc. And turning on that option fixed it.

Thanks, Well that fixed the minimize/unminimize animations somewhat , but the animation when you create or close a window is still pretty laggy.

The newer versions of compiz-fusion is also faster for me. So you can get the latest version by remerging all the packages that have to do with compiz. However, for me at least, this ruined ccsm. So I can't adjust the config anymore. It might just be a temporary bug that will be worked out later though.

edit: read what zero has to say here about the ccsm problem. I'm going to try that when I'm home.
