Have you tried as root in terminal
net-setup

Or if not getting a ip then router needs reset or correct key , it could be /etc/resolv.conf as this file should only have you isp's dns server ip's in it. You can add the router ip as well as this does work.

nameserver 192.168.0.1
nameserver 24.77.78.89
nameserver 24.77.76.120

There is sometimes the extra generic one 195.?? and remove this one. Not sure why it is there as it only works propperly in Europe / Netherlands. USA has too much lag in the connection to properly use this.

You could be conencted to the wireless router and still have no internet then check /etc/resolv.conf
If you can not connect to the wireless router then the router is either locked to your mac address 11:22:33:44:55:66 something like this or the pass key you are using needs to be same as in the router WarraWarra instead of warrawarra. Case sensitive letters.
Example:
Make sure caps lock is off when entering this pass key as you might end up inserting WARRAWARRA and then no connection.
I have had to unplug the router for about 5 min's and then plug it in again as sometimes they do lock-up or the static electricity makes them unhappy and a reset like this get's it going again. Can be same for modem type device as well.
Same goes for wireless name Linksys is different network from linksys.

Next check to make sure the wifi card is propperly recognized / right driver for it.
lspci
To check if the driver is loaded for the card.
lsmod

If not loaded then use "modprobe prism" replacing prism with the correct name for the driver.
You can have ot load the driver at boot if not doing so already by adding it to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 and just add the name of the module / driver
ndiswrapper
or
prism
You get the idea.
Making sure the network actives and works on boot form a working config you would have to use
rc-update add net.wlan0 default
Replacing the wlan0 with the name of the wifi that has been given to yours
eth1 or ath0
Check with.
iwconfig

Hi, and first of all thanks for your answer. I tried anything, via consol with net-set and with the gnome network manager. The strange thing is, that the value i enter being resettet each time i start the network manager.

this is my ifconfig :

sleep2 ~ # ifconfig

Does your router use DHCP or have you assigned a specific IP address for this machine (192.168.100.73) ?

As far as I know the modem has to give the ip to the router and if you want a static ip for the wireless then in the router there is a way of doing it. Might have to change the 192.168.0.1 from router to gateway in it's menu for your config to work.

Having 192.168.0.1 router and wifi connecting to it being 192.168.100.73 is likely where the problem comes in as it will only give a sub adress of 192.168.0.73 not 192.168.100.73.
To cheat this and have all pc's on a wan / lan :
Example:
modem 192.168.99.1
router 192.168.34.1
wifi ???
Plug the incoming cable from the modem into port 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 then the router will give out sub adresses of the modem / 1 big wan / lan
Example:
modem 192.168.99.1
router invisible / bridge / gateway
wifi 192.168.99.56
Also will have to before hand set the router to be dhcp / gateway and not router as doing this you will not be able to get into the router menu unless unplugging modem.

Not 100% sure but this works.

You can also set the modem to be 192.168.99.1 with 10 dhcp sub from .95 to .105 adresses and the router then gets 192.168.99.100 with 20 dhcp sub from say 192.168.99.150 - 192.168.99.170 for wifi but have to manually add routing and set to gateway or something not sure but can be done.

Have to google for this or the manual of your router. I stumbled onto this once by mistake / frustration.
Hope this helps.
