I tried it. Here's what I found.

I finally got the bit torrent working, and started downloading Sabayon (the non 64 version). I had to restart the download three times because my download speed whittled down to zero each time. It took me two days to finally download the whole thing. I was using Win** and Opera to perform the download. After it completed, I was unable to compare the MD5 numbers; something about streaming error, and cannot find it in the directory. I almost felt defeated, but then, I picked up a SLAX live cd and decided to try using that to burn the downloaded program into the DVD. After finally succeeding in doing that, I then rebooted the computer, and Sabayon came up. I was using an HP Pavillion zv6000/AMD64 laptop computer. Nice screen! Couldn't figure out what to put in as password for "sabayonuser", so I just hit the "enter" key. It proceeded to load the KDE desktop. When I tried to setup different environments, some of them required me to be "root", but didn't know the "root's" password to do it. So I started a console, and used "sudo" to create another common user, and to setup a password for "root". I thought that by this time, I had everything licked, but came to find out that when I started some appications (randomly) the OS would just freeze, except for the mouse. I tried quite a few power-off/reboots to see what would make it freeze, but it was random. couldn't find the root cause of the problem.

Sabayon turned out to be useless for me, because it had a hard time to find "ndiswrapper". Sabayon couldn't find my wireless card, so I couldn't do any networking. And because of the freeze-ups, I finally gave up. The DVD is now sitting on the shelf, unused.

I guess that Sabayon is still not ready for prime time. At least when it comes to this laptop.

Admin edit: Sorry, the yellow was just making it too hard to read for me, so I just changed it back to normal white

Ndiswrapper you have to set up to find your wireless information from your windows hard drive. What exactly is your wireless card? You can look in lpsci for the exact model linux sees.

The root password is either "root" or NULL

hey man, sorry to hear about your poor experience. One thing I found out the hard way was that the torrent is best downloaded the Azureus Torrent client. As for the passwords the root password is root, and the sabayonuser is sabayonuser. I have a lot of trouble with wireless myself and ndiswrapper, and am kinda of stuck when it comes to linux wireless. I don't know if the x86-64 version would help with any of the problems you are having.

I appreciate your feedback.

Thank you all for the information, and for the passwords. The wireless card is a Broadcom type.
If it wasn't for the OS constantly hanging up, I would have perhaps persued further to try to get ndiswrapper going. But at this stage, one cannot do much work with a constantly freezing computer.

It's been a long time now, that I've been looking for a distro for this computer that would totally work with no problems. I've gone through quite a few "live" distros trying to achieve this. If I do find a good "live" trouble-free distro that works, that will be the one that gets permanently installed on this machine's hard drive.

Cheers!

Just read the docs and try to use the rmmod= option to avoid ndiswrapper loading.

I want to make sure that I was not misunderstood.

I'm not sure what rmmod does, and what it is about.
Anyway, I want to clarify that it was not ndiswrapper that was hanging up the OS. I just gave up proceeding further because of the hangup problems of the "live" dvd. It was caused by mostly any other standard application, such as the search function, that would die, and kill the machine. I tried diffrent things, such as desktop setup, using a console application, ect., that brought up this problem.

This HP 64 laptop is very, very Linux resistant. The Broadcom WiFi card forces me to have to use ndiswrapper. I've not found any Linux OS that does directly finds and supports that WiFi card. And, I've not found a single Linux OS that would fully operate without any errors. Some of them of course, didn't support the WiFi, some other distros didn't support my wireless mouse and keyboard. And of course it is useless to run a Linux version who'se applications freezes the keyboard rock solid. The hard drive in this machine has a limited area that can be used for Linux. I will not partition this only drive until I am positively sure that the Linux OS that I've chosen, wil function normally. Happy or not about it, I'm stuck with using Winblows.

Cheers! 8)
